New York State Bans Small Plastic Bottles in Hotels

Biodegradable Bottles

New York State has just passed a new law to help reduce plastic waste. Starting on January 1, 2025, hotels with 50 or more rooms won’t be allowed to give out small plastic bottles of shampoo and conditioner. Hotels that don’t follow the rule could be fined $250 for the first offense, and $500 for any future violations. The fines will go into the state’s Environmental Protection Fund to help with efforts to reduce plastic pollution.

This new law is part of a bigger movement across the country. States like California, Washington, and Illinois are also working to cut down on single-use plastics, especially in the hotel industry. Even though small bottles might seem like a small issue, they add up to a huge amount of waste. Every year, millions of these tiny bottles end up in landfills, making the problem of plastic pollution even worse.

Steven Englebright, a former state assemblyman and current Suffolk County legislator, said the new law is an important step for New York. He added, “When we do something important, it has the potential to be looked at as a model for our sister states.” Many environmental groups agree, saying that reducing plastic use in hotels will make a big difference in the fight against pollution.

Hotel chains are already taking action. For example, Marriott is planning to replace small plastic bottles with larger, refillable bottles in their rooms. By doing this, they hope to stop 500 million small shampoo and conditioner bottles from ending up in landfills every year.

As part of this movement, we are proud to offer a solution to help hotels reduce their plastic waste even further. We have developed an eco-friendly, biodegradable bottle packaging solution made from sugarcane bagasse. These bottles are not only great for the environment but also offer a safe, durable, and cost-effective alternative to plastic bottles.

Our sugarcane bagasse bottles are fully biodegradable, which means they break down naturally in the environment without causing harm. They are a perfect option for hotels that want to meet the new state laws and do their part to reduce plastic pollution. The bottles are made from the leftover material after sugarcane is processed, which is a renewable resource. This makes them an environmentally friendly choice that helps reduce waste and the need for plastic.

We understand the importance of sustainability, and our sugarcane bagasse bottles are designed to help businesses make a positive impact. They’re durable enough for daily use, but once they are disposed of, they break down quickly, unlike plastic bottles that can take hundreds of years to decompose. By switching to our eco-friendly solution, hotels can keep their rooms clean and stylish while also supporting the environment.

This is just one small way hotels can help solve the global plastic waste crisis. It’s exciting to see New York take action, and we hope that other states and businesses will follow suit. Together, we can make a big difference, one small bottle at a time.
